Meet Mr. Sackett
6th degree black belt. Training since 1984. Teaching kids, teens and adults for over 25 years.
A lifelong karate journey
Mr. Adam Sackett started his karate journey at age 10, on February 11, 1984, at the Rockaway Karate Academy. His parents, Dan and Lois Sackett, brought him to the dojo to help build his confidence, self-control and focus. Adam fell in love immediately. It didn't matter how big, fast, small or strong you were: anyone could train in karate. And unlike team sports, each student got equal attention and a chance to shine.
On June 27, 1991, at 17, he earned the rank of Sho-Dan (1st degree black belt) from his Sensei, Miss J Felenczak. On August 25, 2019, he received the rank of Roku-Dan (6th degree black belt).
Teaching for over 25 years
Mr. Sackett began attending the American Budo Kai summer karate camp in 1986 and served on its staff for over a decade. He became an assistant instructor in 1989 and a certified instructor in 1999, when he started teaching his own Tuesday night classes for kids, teens and adults at the Kenvil Karate Academy.
In 2011 he teamed up with his brother Jonathan to open their own dojo. That dream began on October 5, 2012 with the Family Martial Arts Center in Parsippany, NJ. In 2021, Mr. Sackett opened our Scotch Plains location.
Adam has extensive training in Isshinryu Karate, Judo and Weapons, and his flexible, caring teaching style has earned him many accolades.
